Business offers matching funds for summer camp program
Too modest to discuss the many charities and nonprofit organizations they have assisted in the 36 years that the Santa Barbara Home Improvement Center has been in business, owner Eleanor H. Simpson and son, Gary, have come to the aid of many organizations that help people and families in crisis.
The Simpson family's philosophy is to give back to the community in an effort to help make the community a better place to live and work for those individuals and families served by these organizations. Their generous support of the Transition House and so many other nonprofit organizations has enabled many families in crisis situations to have hope and a future.
Gary Simpson, general manager of the Home Improvement Center, asks for the community's support in assisting them with a very special need. Through the United Way of Santa Barbara they are sponsoring a program for young people called "Fun in the Sun." This program is designed to help underprivileged youth around Santa Barbara each summer. This summer program provides supervised, summertime activities for older kids whose parents cannot afford summer camp.
In most cases these children are left at home unsupervised while their parents are at work. The Home Improvement Center has pledged to give $5,000 in matching funds for all donations they collect for this much-needed program. However, time is running out and they are still need funds to meet their goal of $10,000.
If you want to be a part of this worthy effort for the youth of our community, please make your charitable donation payable to United Way in care of the Santa Barbara Home Improvement Center, 431 E. Gutierrez St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101. They will match every dollar you send to reach this goal.
