Symphony volunteers bring music to community
Symphony volunteers make local children's dreams come true! With the participation of over 300 local volunteers, the Santa Barbara Symphony brings the joy of music to thousands of community members each year young and old alike through an organized and important volunteer network. The region's largest classical music organization welcomes hundreds of volunteers into its "family" each year to accomplish a variety of projects from the Music Van mobile classroom program, and Concerts for Young People Series ushers, to its many other outreach, concert and fundraising events. Newcomers and the newly interested are always invited to join its ranks.
The Santa Barbara Symphony operates year-round and counts among its most vital resources the 250-member Santa Barbara Symphony League, a volunteer women's guild organized to support the programs of the Orchestra. Symphony League members spearhead many of the Symphony's education and outreach initiatives. Volunteer docents and ushers receive training and social benefits that make membership in the League both personally and vocationally fulfilling. In addition, the League sponsors numerous special events each year, including an annual charity ball, holiday tea and opening night extravaganza, which add an element of fun to balance the hard work put forth each season.
Membership in the League can be obtained for a fee of $35, and all League members are required to purchase a season ticket to the Symphony (starting at $70), or underwrite an outreach ticket to be given to a local community agency ($65). Volunteer projects are also coordinated through the Symphony office, and concert ushers are needed each year for the concert series at the Arlington Theatre.
To become a member of the Symphony League, request their new season brochure, or simply to volunteer your skills, please contact the Symphony by calling 805/898-0716, or register online at www.thesymphony.org. |
