* What does
it cost?
- Articles from
our archives cost $2.50 each. A credit card is required for payment.
Note that not all archives include photographs and illustrations.
* What's
available in your archive, and what's not?
- Our archives
include the text of the articles posted on newspress.com since
its starting date of November 1996. These articles were SELECTED
OFFERINGS from each corresponding day's edition of the Santa Barbara
News-Press. Please note that these ARE NOT all the articles published
each day in the News-Press. Further, these offerings DO NOT include
stories produced by wire services and syndicates, which retain
their own copyright to the material.
A complete archive of all News-Press news stories and syndicated
articles is NOT presently available.
Our archives also do not include News-Press charts, graphs,
illustrations, photos, advertisements, classifieds and political
cartoons.
To find articles not available in our archives, other sources
are available.
* Are
other archives available on the site?
- Yes. You can
link through to Associated Press archives by clicking
here. The Associated Press archives are separately maintained,
however, and you must arrange for purchase through its billing
protocol.
* I can't
find an article I'm looking for.
- Remember that
the newspress.com archive is only for articles that have been
published online, NOT all News-Press stories that appeared in
print. Also, newspress.com's daily news is available for 7 days
on our site before it goes into the archive (some special sections
are accessible for up to three months). If the article you are
searching for appeared in the past week (or appeared in a special
section), use the "search" of our current site to see whether
the article is available.
* How
can I view my billing statement?
- This information,
along with all other information about your account, is available
from First Data.
* Why
do the archives only contain selected stories from the News-Press?
- For the first
few years of operation, newspress.com has posted online only a
portion of the daily News-Press printed edition. Based on response
to this initial offering, we will consider making the entire archives
of the News-Press available in the future. If you're looking for
articles not posted online, please check these additional sources
for News-Press content: Santa Barbara Public Library and UCSB
Library.
* What
do I do after I find the article I want? How do I save it?
- You may print
an article or save it on your computer after you purchase.
* How
do I know my credit card number is secure?
- With our secure
connection, all data sent from your Web browser to our secure
server is encrypted, which means that your credit card number
is translated into a secret computer code before it is sent. In
this process, no person ever sees your credit card number, and
there is no risk of interception. This system makes purchasing
on the Web even safer than purchasing by telephone or shopping
in stores, where several people have access to hard copies of
your actual card number.
* Where
do I find a photo or chart that I saw in the newspaper?
- Photographs,
charts, and other illustrations are not included in the archives.
For information about ordering photo reproductions from the News-Press,
e-mail photo@newspress.com
or call for an application form at 805/564.5165.
* Can
I reproduce an article in your archive on my Web site? Can I link
to an article in the archive?
- To reproduce
a newspress.com article on your Web site or anywhere else, you
will need permission from the Santa Barbara News-Press. Click
here for information. It is not possible to link to an article
in the Archive.
