BARATTO, Maria Luigia

(1913 - 2005)

Maria Luigia Reginato Baratto quietly passed away at her home five days before her 92nd birthday. Maria was born on October 24, 1913, in Paderno del Grappa, Provincia di Treviso, Italia to Amelia Antonia Morosin and Giulio Giovanni Reginato. She was preceded in death by sisters, Elena, Luigia Guerrina, Margherita, Malfada Inez and Milena Ester and brothers Giacomo, Adalgeso and Paolo. She is survived by her brother Agostino Reginato of Melbourne, Australia, who graced us with his charm for three months this year and numerous relatives throughout Italia, Australia, Canada, Germany and the United States.

Maria married Luigi Baratto in Paderno del Grappa on August 2, 1939. In the spring of 1940, she embarked upon her journey to America and joined Luigi in Santa Barbara, California. She and Luigi resided in Hope Ranch on "Las Terrasas," the estate of the late Harold S. Chase where they were both employed until 1973. In 1974, they traveled to Italia to visit family and the Vatican. They spent their "golden years" at their present home in Santa Barbara where sweet Luigi passed away on January 12, 1993. Maria tended to her garden until her 90's, and loved playing "Sunday cards" with her friends, Rosetta, Rina, Aldina and Sofia.

She is survived by her son, Giulio and his wife Gaile, daughter, Elena Baratto Felland, grandson, David Baratto and wife Anita, granddaughters, Julie Hayden and husband Kurt, Mary Baratto, Gina Felland and her husband James, and Lisa Renee Felland and great grandchildren, Rachelle, Joe, Kate, Tyler, Olivia, Travis, Hillary and Rebecca.

Maria was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, Italian American Boot Club and a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Maria's "angels of loving care," Hospice Care of Santa Barbara, 222 East Canon Perdido Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., at Welch-Ryce-Haider, 15 East Sola Street, Santa Barbara. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, October 27, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 21 East Sola Street, Santa Barbara, followed by interment at Calvary Mausoleum, 199 North Hope Avenue, Santa Barbara.

DAVIES, Elizabeth "Betty"

died Oct. 20, 2005 died in Bullhead, Arizona.

Betty was born May 30, 1931 to James W. and Hannah (Harvey) French in Quebec, Canada. She was the youngest of five children and living on a farm with four older brothers is likely responsible to tough mindedness and "can do" nature.

After finishing her nurses training Betty was married to Adrian E. Davies on July 14, 1952. Four children quickly followed, and the family moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1964. There Betty worked as a Registered Nurse, finishing her career as an Administrator for the California Department of Health Services.

Her husband Adrian unexpectedly passed away in 1989 changing Betty's plan for early retirement.

In 1991 she retired and moved to Bullhead City, Arizona where she met her loving companion Jim Brown. They enjoyed 12 years together.

Betty is survived by four children; Eric Davies, Gail Baer, Laurel Davies and Elizabeth "Betsy" Baldwin; her loving companion Jim Brown; four grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Oct. 25, 2005 in Bullhead City, Arizona.

Interment will be at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura, CA Thursday at Oct. 27, 2005 at 11:00 am.

EDMONDS, Adeline Belcher McCormick

90, passed peacefully of natural causes last Thursday, October 20, 2005, in her home of 62 years on the Riviera in Santa Barbara.

Adeline [Adie], a third generation Californian, was born October 25, 1914 to Ralph McCormick and Adeline Belcher of Marysville, Ca. In 1933 while attending Stanford University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, she moved to Santa Barbara where she met her husband George who had moved to Santa Barbara from Chula Vista, Ca. They were married in Santa Barbara in 1935 and remained in our beautiful city for the rest of their lives.

Adie was very active in the Santa Barbara community, volunteering her considerable talents to the Botanical Gardens, Garden Club, Junior League, Music Academy of the West, Museum of Art, Museum of Natural History, Visiting Nurse Association, as well as a member of the Valley Club of Montecito.

In the late 60's, upon the invitation of the Scott's, Adie and George purchased Paul F. Scott Stationers in Montecito Village. After George's death in 1976, Adie continued her proprietorship until the late 1980's.

Adie will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Be comforted in knowing she is at peace and is where she has wanted to be for many years, with her husband George.

Adie is survived by her daughter, Joan Lynch of Paso Robles, California, son Richard Edmonds of Ridgewood, New Jersey and son David Edmonds of Oroville, California, plus six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren

As per Adie's request, a simple grave side observance will be held Thursday, Oct. 27 from 11:30am to 1pm at Santa Barbara Cemetery, 901 Channel Dr. After a wait of 28 years, Adie will be reunited with her beloved George at site CF 133. Adie also requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to one of her three favorite charities: Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens, or Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.

HUTTON, Florence Charlotte Poland

Santa Barbara (Samarkand Assisted Living) resident Florence Charlotte Poland Hutton passed away on Tuesday October 18, 2005, surrounded by family and friends. She leaves behind a large, extended family, many of whom are local California residents and all of whom will miss her deeply. Florence was born on a farm in Westby, Montana on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1919 and spent her childhood years in Minot, North Dakota. It was in her boisterous family of one sister, three brothers and many cousins, nieces and nephews that Florence first demonstrated her ability to be a responsible yet independent thinker, and graciously to sidestep any obstacles that may have stood in the way of achieving her goals. Florence's warm, thoughtful and engaging personality charmed those who knew her, and her life-long friendships and relationships with people through the years are a testament to the care and time she was always willing to give to the people in her life. She had the extraordinary ability to make all of us feel that we were each "her favorite" and "the special one."

In 1937 Florence met Robert Hutton while working as a carhop at Phil's Drive-In Burger Restaurant, and they were soon married on January 18, 1938. It was last year that Bob Hutton passed away, after nearly 67 years of marriage and two beloved daughters, Marlene Hutton Hazen and Kathleen Hutton Burghardt Pryer; Marlene and her husband (William Hazen) are long-time Carpinteria residents, while Kathleen and her husband (Rex Pryer) live in Fortuna, California. During the last few days of her life, Florence expressed her sense that she would soon pass away, and consistently discussed her gratitude for all who loved her. She also talked about the joy of joining Bob after her spirit leaves the earth, and that too was a source of great comfort to her in her last hours.

On Thursday October 27, 2005 at 3:30pm, friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service followed by a casual reception in the Mountain Room of The Samarkand Retirement Community, 1225 Treasure Drive, Santa Barbara. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara, 21 East Constance.

MOONEY, Joshua

January 30, 1972 - October 18, 2005

Joshua Mooney left this Earth in October of 2005. His bright smile and infallible sense of humor will be missed, but never forgotten, by his beloved family and infinite network of friends. Josh was born in the small town of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, on a snowy, full-moon night, one of those clear, cold nights when the stars shine their brightest. And he was a bright star, a joy to his parents and grandparents, the oldest brother who always looked out for and protected his brothers, Luke, Critter, Eli, and sister, Megan. He was absolutely adored by his niece, Allison Jane, age 2.

He was an active child, full of energy, always ready for adventure. His family moved to Santa Barbara in 1982. Josh attended Hollister School, graduated from St. Raphael's, and attended Bishop Diego and San Marcos High Schools. He participated in lots of sports: YFL, Little League, and Goleta Youth Sports before finding his favorite sport, surfing. As a young man, he worked out regularly at the gym, and took up martial arts. He attended Santa Barbara City College as a Computer Science Major. He loved anything that provided a challenge.

He found his niche in the computer world, becoming a successful computer programmer, working his way up to a "sys admin" (systems administrator), loving the challenge of his work.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth (Betsy) Booher Mooney; his father, Stuart Mooney, Jr.; his brother, Lucas (Luke) and sister-in-law, Amber Marsh Mooney, and their daughter, Allison Jane Mooney of Scottsdale, Arizona; brothers Christian (Critter), Elijah (Eli), and sister, Megan Mooney, all of the Santa Barbara area; his maternal grandparents, Edward and Hazel Herd Booher, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; his maternal aunt, Helen Booher Bush of Delmont, Pennsylvania; his paternal uncle, Kevin and his wife Michelle Mooney of Mission Viejo, California. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Stuart Mooney, Sr., and Bernice Labecki Mooney, and his maternal aunt Jane Booher Schmidgal, also of Greensburg.

He would want to include his favorite cat here, Elvis, who he loved dearly, and lost. Now he can find him again.

"To die will be an awfully big adventure."

**

Good-bye, Joshie - we all love you.

A memorial service will be held at Godric Grove in Elings Park on Sunday, October 30, 2005, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

A scholarship fund has been set up through the Foundation for Santa Barbara City College to help computer science majors. Contributions can be sent to: The Foundation for Santa Barbara City College, 721 Cliff Drive, Santa Barbara, CA 93109, Attn: Gretchen Hewlett. (*Please specify in memory of Joshua Mooney, for the Computer Science Department*)
