KNOWLES, Lillian

passed away quietly at the age of 87 on December 12, 2005, at Sarah House in Santa Barbara. Lillian was born on January 15, 1918 in Ohio. Her parents came to America from England a few years before her birth in 1918. She was born into a family of four older brothers who took delight in watching over her. She married Walter Knowles in 1938 and moved to Santa Barbara in 1944 to be near Walter while he was serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed at Port Hueneme. Lillian and Walter fell in love with the beauty of Santa Barbara and made it their home. Lillian was a homemaker and a devoted wife for 57 years. She always took great pride in her family and home. Lillian will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, unfailing integrity and generosity, graciousness, her sparkling green eyes and most important her intense love for her family. She raised toy poodles, loved reading, working in the yard, the challenge of cross word puzzles, bingo, a good card game, and bowling with friends at San Marcos Lanes. Later in her life she kept in touch with family and friends through email.

Lillian was a wonderful and caring mother and especially enjoyed having her family together for a home cooked meal. Her home was always open to family and friends.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Walter Knowles in 1995. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Tingle and son Ronald Knowles, four grandchildren, Carrie Jopling, Ronald Knowles, Jr., Christopher Knowles and Julia Castronova and two great grandchildren Jarrett Jopling and Zachary Castronova.

Cherished memories of Lillian will always be in our hearts and minds and we look forward to the day when we will see the fulfillment of the words found in the Bible at Revelation 21:3 & 4 and Acts 24:15. According to her wishes, cremation is planned. A private family service will be held.

Our family wishes to thank the team of caregivers at Sarah House and Visiting Nurses & Hospice Care of Santa Barbara who showed heartfelt warmth and compassion to Lillian during her illness. The love and care at Sarah House was beyond our expectations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Sarah House.
