Ambiance comes to light

When a wedding coordinator or site manager poses the question, "Have you considered lighting?" to a client, the reaction they usually receive is a slightly inquisitive blank stare. For many couples, lighting is an element of their wedding reception design that is overlooked; however, it can often be one of the most important and compelling aspects to consider in the overall event design.

Lighting holds a unique position in the world of event design due to the duality of its nature. When utilized as an element of décor, lighting can dramatically transform an event space by infusing colors, creating shadows and textures, establish the mood and create atmosphere for your guests to enjoy. On a more practical level, lighting can provide visibility for such essential components as catering kitchens, restrooms, the band or DJ, and dining or cocktail areas.

Many couples choose to take advantage of the natural beauty of Santa Barbara by holding their wedding reception at an outdoor location. It is here that lighting becomes crucial to the event's success. Not only will lighting provide sufficient visibility after the sun goes down, but its decorative aspects will enhance the natural beauty of the area while providing a sense of enclosure and warmth.

For couples that choose to have their reception indoors, lighting will define the composition of the event design and will enhance the other components, such as floral centerpieces, the wedding cake, sweetheart table, table linens and other décor elements.

When planning your wedding reception, it's a good idea to consider how lighting could enhance the scope of your design and provide necessary visibility for you and your guests to enjoy.
